Website Updates!

Mon Oct 31, 2011, 10:22 PM
Since I've set up my website I updated it 3 times already. Each time with a set of new photos that haven't been posted on dA.
The most important improvement was the bilingual support. The site opens up in Romanian but there is a Translate to English button that will accurately and elegantly translate the posts from Romanian to English. It's not using an automated translation like google translate. It's human translation.
So I think this is another reason to come visit my website as it supports English too making it readable and pleasant for non-Romanians too.
I will wait you there.

New Website, please visit!!!

Hello dear watchers. It has been a long time since I've written something here, I don't even dare to say how much time has passed since I uploaded a photo. But I assure you. I have new photos that will be posted. It's just I have a couple of thousands to select & edit.
In the meantime I've set-up a personal photography blog, and I invite you to come and visit it because you will see there some new photos that I haven't posted here:
Click here: bogdanepure.blogspot.com/ to visit it.
I will post most of my photos over there but also I will continue posting here as this is my first photography portfolio and also the site where I am the most active (actually I wasn't that active the last year but I think that will change).
Anyway, I'll wait you on my photo blog.  bogdanepure.blogspot.com/ You may comment over there or here, and tell me your opinion about it. You can also subscribe by e-mail or follow it on networked blogs or if you want to help me, please hit the blue facebook share button. It's more about photos so not very much writing. The writing it's in Romanian but you can use google translate to read or if I will have more English/international followers I will start to write in English.
Have a nice day everyone.

I have a hobby… a hobby that a lot of people have nowadays. I like to photograph, but not everything. I like to photograph landscapes in particular and nature in general: wildlife, flowers, insects. And I believe my photos are good but with that comes a problem: some people, actually quite many don't know to appreciate that. That is not a problem if they would not express their opinion in a manner  like this: "of course it's an amazing photo because you have a very good camera!" or "this photo looks this beautiful because you edited it in Photoshop"
And yes, I have to admit they are right! Completely!
Why?
Because I remember seeing my beautiful and semi-professional camera waking up in the morning, sometimes even before sunrise, riding the bicycle in searching of nice landscapes and/or wildlife subjects worthy to be photographed. I think that must be a strange sight to see and probably a lot of drivers reported a bicycle rode by a… digital camera.
Anyway I also think that my camera, after finding a good spot waited for the good light to take place, in the mean time she (the camera) was setting the tripod by herself and also made the… in-camera settings for the light. Probably she used some filters too and/or the lens hood. Anyway, I don't really know how it happens but my camera is surely amazing!!! It can travel long distances by bicycle (sometimes over 150km) and most important, it can set by herself and it's usually coming back with good photos and sometimes with amazing photos. I'm pretty proud of it. But the thing I love the most about it is that it's creative! I've seen modern electrical equipment but none of it had this feature: creativity. My camera must have some feelings… some form of soul…
Well, what can I say, I'm a happy owner of a camera that is better than any camera you can think of…
But let's continue our story…
Some people don't know that my Adobe Photoshop makes miracles… it creates landscapes, with amazingly natural details, and of an amazing beauty. Must of all… these landscapes are actually real! And they actually represent how the scene looked like in a certain moment… That, I think is absolutely amazing!
Now, I'm glad people still believe in miracles… and that their imagination is functioning so well…
But I don't understand why they forget that a photo that they make in 5 seconds a serious photographer dedicates a LOT more time for it. A lot more effort is involved and a lot more thinking. To capture an amazing photo a serious photographer oftenly spends entire hours waiting for that moment of perfect light. Some people spend even days or weeks to capture what they wanted to. Also when that moment arrive serious photographers tries different angles, different settings and different compositions. Sometimes hundreds of photos are made with the same subject. And from those, at home, the photographer selects the best. Sometimes the photographer endures cold, freezing temperatures or extremely hot weather, the photographer endures insect bites, the photographer shortens his sleep time, endures rain and oftenly even risks his life…
As a matter of fact I actually didn't delete the bad photos or the not-so-good ones from one photo session just to use them as an example here. So, at that photo session I made about 305 photos… of which I selected only 67 photos as being good. 238 were not-so-good or bad. From those 67 only around 10 or 15 are good enough to be posted on internet. The rest would look too much alike. Maybe this is because I recently stepped into a field that was completely unknown for me: macro photography... and believe me: it is much more complicated than it looks.
So yeah, my camera and the Photoshop I use, must be amazing.

P.S. I sell them, but considering they are so good and unique in this world you have to be ready to pay a price with many zeroes. In $.

P.P.S. I should have written this in Romanian because this type of appreciation I receive mostly from my co-nationals. But I hope everyone understands it.

I wish good light to everyone. And for those that don't own a clever and creative camera like I do: don't wait much longer, buy one!
So, I have this idea that spins in my head lately. That I should quit posting my photos on the internet. I make no money thru this and neither I'm appreciated for my work. Also I'm sick of my weak camera. All my photos, good or bad are made with my Nikon D40X. I just wish to have more time& money to go and photograph whatever I want... here in my country or at least to find someone with the same hobby that wish to travel with me. I wish to buy a new camera: a D7000 (I don't even dream at a full format camera) but I don't have the money to. So... while I'm struggling with these problems others have better equipment, make more trips and the result is that they have richer portofolios and better photos. I don't care about that... I'm just sick of noticing how useless is for me to post photos online. By the way, since winter no photos worth to be posted...
Have a nice weekend everyone.
As I said on my previous post, I started a monastery tour in my county with my old good friend. He doesn't own a camera but he is a nice fellow. His name is Trek 4500 and it's a hardtail mountain bike.
I can say that wondering in my county with "him" was a very pleasant thing to do in weekend.
After photographing Sucevita monastery, I had a short talk with my friend Trek, in fact it was more like a minor inspection to see if he is prepared to climb the mountains with me... and yes he was ready and very eager to go.
Also at Sucevita I almost lost my sun-glasses which where eye-savers considering that after climbing a long speedy descent was awaiting me... In fact I did lost them but luckily enough I found them, even if they were nice sunglasses and even if the area was extremely populated and they were visible... nobody actually stole them which did changed my perspective of my own country a bit. In a positive way :)
So, I jumped on my bike without any formalities... checked that everything is set and I started to move. Sun was fighting with the clouds, rain clouds, but not scary ones. It was a beautiful sky, a very decent temperature for biking. Everything was perfect and I was quite happy with my achievements so far. A short rain that barely wet the road, announced me that I'm in a mountain area, where it can rain anytime... But it passed and the sun rapidly dried the road for me. When I started my climbing I met a group of cyclist on their fast descent, we saluted each other, happy to notice that not everyone pollutes this amazing home that Earth is...
Air was actually getting cleaner and colder as I was advancing right in the Earth's oxygen factory - the forest.
I was surrounded by beauty and amazing bird songs were making my climbing easier... (my mp3 player had died so nature sounds were actually a perfect back-up for that). The climbing was beautiful but even if the road was amazing I started to get a bit bored by it.
But nature was preparing me another surprise... those not-so-dangerous clouds just called they're bigger brother: a big ugly cumulonimbus... which actually scared me a bit because I didn't had ANY rain equipment... No need for special equipment though because that cloud was only a big-mouth kind of guy, I could hear thunders but there was no rain... But I climbed the rest of the mountain under its pressure and threat. The top of the mountain had provided me with some nice panoramic landscapes but they were not that photogenic in my opinion... Also I found some people there that where selling home-made chocolate - a real delicacy better than any chocolate that I've ever ate.
I met another cyclist on top but he was traveling light: no backpacks, no photo equipment, no tools. A nice fellow to chat with.
Anyway, even if the landscape was nice, the top of the mountain was cold and I sweat enough on my way up, enough to start shaking like a leaf. I decided that it's time to change my clothes, add some others and start my descent...
I did but only after a half of a kilometer the amazing beauty of a scene made me stop. This is what I saw:fav.me/d2ypoe7
I continued my descent, I left behind Ciumarna village and I finally reached my last photographic destination: Moldovita monastery. Oh, how I forgot its beauty... Sadly enough, here in Bucovina all the churches are built with their altar facing east so now I had the sun in front of me and I almost couldn't taking any decent shot of the monastery...
In a way Moldovita is more beautiful than Sucevita. It's outside mural paintings are not as well preserved even if it's a smaller church but there are a lot of flowers and plants that cover the protection walls, all of these are making this place a very romantic location and for the second time in my life... I felt like Adam before the creation of Eve...
I tried to photograph it the best way I could and even if I couldn't take very nice photos of this church because of the light, I do have synchronized myself with a local ritual... you will see that in my future photos.
After photographing it... I started to jumped on my bike to reach my home which was 70km away...
Amazing journey I may say... but I felt again that even if I'm a loner it's good to have company...
So, if there are any local cyclists that love to venture into the forests, onto the mountains they are more than welcomed to join me.

Long time since my last journal.
I’m guilty of not updating it even some important things happened. But than again I don’t know how many are interested about this… as I’m noticing that the traffic to my dA account has decreased in a scary way :)
Anyway, one of the important things is that I got a job. I needed this very much and I’m happy and grateful BUT this really limits my free time (and I was used to have a lot of free time – like all day long).
Now I’m planning my weekends for biking and photography. I already met lica20 which proved to be a nice fellow photographer to wander with and we went out for a photo walk on some  hills around Rarau mountain. I enjoyed that photo walk and it proved to be a photographic success. We’ve seen a deer and I tried to photograph it which turned out to be a difficult job because it was running like crazy and I forgot to increase the ISO…
Since that weekend I biked or I did some local photo walks, as usual, by myself.
The last weekend I decided to visit the monasteries that made my country famous worldwide. These monasteries are unique in Romania and all around the world for their architecture and paintings.
So, I decided that it’s time to photograph them in a proper way, like in a very good way.
Planned and done.
I reached my first photo site: Sucevita. The weather was not very nice: it was an overcast sky and this way I learned how crucial the light is!
But I’ve waited patiently till night… even if it got chilly and I was all wet because of the bike ride, which is not quite a comfortable situation.
When the sun was setting… well, it decided not to go without a light show… so it rained a little bit a very mild rain but enough to produce something I wasn’t even dreaming: a beautiful rainbow.
Oh, how I wished for that rainbow to last for at least a hour…
The clouds were lit up beautifully by the setting sun so the background for the monastery was perfect…
Too bad they don’t allow tripods in the monastery courtyard… :(
After it got dark I went to a local motel to eat that I went to bed.
I got up early hoping for a good sunrise but the sky was covered by ugly gray clouds… so I slept more and when I woke up again – same story.
Finally at around 9 am it started to clear out so I decided to go for another photography session with some blue skies as a background for the monasteries…
The photos turned up to be pretty good and I love them. I pretty much overpassed the quality of the postcards of the monastery. :D
The story goes on as I left Sucevita for my next destinations which pretty much ended being reduced from two to one because of the less amount of time I got…
Again I was accompanied by threatening clouds and thunders for which I wasn’t prepared… the sky got dark to the north and the clouds were advancing but acrazy guy with a camera and a bike dared to continue his trip…
To be continued…

3 years of dA

Mon Jun 7, 2010, 1:13 PM
Today I noticed It was written: Deviant for 3 years. That is quite a while since I'm on dA and I would be happy to know that while I was here I could be helpful to some (At least this last year since I founded ROmania-in-photos group)
Also I'm gladly noticing my art improved (at least that is what I believe).

I would expect your opinion on that :P
I expect suggestion also: what would you like to see more? Should I post portraits too? Wedding photos?

P.S. Sorry for posting 2 journals in the same day!

Hello,

I need help with a Photoshop problem. I never stitched a panorama of more than 9 photos in photoshop but when I tried now... well, Photoshop doesn't stitch them togheter :(
Do you know how can I fix this?
It would be very helpful...

So... I wanted this for a looong time!
I wanted to have a good, reliable tripod but also I wanted it to be a lightweight and a compact one.
I wanted it to be a tripod that expands it legs independently (those are very good for nature photography)
After months of searching I found one. Maybe it might seem a poor choice but to me it seems the best tripod out there and also the perfect value for the money.
When I decided I want a tripod I thought it will be something easy to buy... but immediately after that I noticed is a tough decision to make.
I was browsing the internet in searching for a tripod and when I saw a nice one I was saving the link.
Than I realized this method it's not practical. So I did what I had to to. I opened up Microsoft Excel and I created a new document. I noted the characteristics of the tripod like this:
Tripod name
Price (maximum 300$)
Maximum height (at least 1.5 meters)
Minimum height (maximum 20 centimeters)
Tripod weight (less than 2 kg)
Supported weight (at least 3kg)
folded length (less than 60cm with head on)
number of section (maximum 4)
Than I started to fill up the document and I found like 20 tripods or so.
After that it was A LOT easier to pick one having all their features in front of my eyes.
It was a simple but extremely useful comparison chart.
I reduced the preferred tripods to ten, then to 4 than to one!
And that one is Davis & Sanford Voyager Lite.
Which gives me aluminum legs, ball head, 160cm (63") maximum height, 19cm (7,5") minimum height, 53cm (21") folded length, 3,6kg (8 lb) supported weight and 1.36kg (3 lb) tripod weight. All that for... only 50$
But then I discovered even more features. The tripod is coming with a bubble level, a hook at the end of the center column (for hooking the backpack to make the tripod more stable in windy conditions).
Foam on the legs to be easy to carry in cold weather, spike AND rubber feet, flip locks and a bag for the tripod.
Oh wait, I forgot to mention the 10 year warranty.

I don't own it yet... but I expect it to arrive at the end of this week.
I will test it then and I will announce you how this magnificent tripod performs in real world.

You might say it's not supporting sufficient weight. Well, I personally know for sure that I will not mount a camera gear heavier than 2kg in the near feature on it.

If you wanna buy a new tripod first decide what type you want where and how you'll use it, how much weight you'll set on it than you may apply my method. I wish you good luck.

Today at about 10:30 while I was browsing dA I noticed a weird avatar of a friend. I was thinking why he changed it... then when I looked carefully my own was changed and also EVERY avatar of a dA user except groups.

Did you experience that yourself?

I guess the cracker is a fan of Lady Gaga and really loves the logo "Team Seaker".
When I clicked to change my avatar I found this flashing pink text: "TEAM SEEKER!!! WOOOOO!!!!!!!11" which will not let you to change your avatar.
EDIT: the signature is also modified...

Even if it's April 1st I don't think this is made by dA.
I also think he deserves congratulations because he found the vulnerability (I don't like how he exploited though) and dA deserves blame because it didn't prepared for a thing like this...
Anyway, I really do hope dA will succeed to fix it soon.
The good thing is that the hacked avatar is just anesthetic and harmless. I hope there aren't other changes.
FIX IT dA!

P.S. Maybe I am wrong and this is made by dA considering California just "stepped" into April 1st approximately now.

A problem with my HDD and all the music gone forever. Also some of my photos (but I have back-up for them) and other files.
I knew I had my music backed-up too and so, I formatted the HDD and start to write info on it knowing that I don't have to worry but for some reason, I don't have a back-up... so yeah... really nasty thing which "made my day". :(

Hello, my watchers!

I am sorry that I didn't post new photos in the late months. I have been busy studying. But I also had some time to take photos...
I thought that I would select them as I usually do, and then review all of them and delete the not-so-beautiful ones. But that takes too much time and I changed my mind.
So I will just pick a good photo and post it here.
So, yes, officially I'm back. With FRESH, NEW, AMAZING photos.
Enjoy!

Hello everybody!

First of all, I wish to THANK YOU ALL for voting for my photos in that contest. I really appreciate what you did, and means A LOT to me. So, God bless you (sorry for non-believers)

Now... the bad news is that I didn't won that contest with the public help. I knew this could happen. But I received good support from you and that means a lot. I don't know how many votes I gained because the website was stupidly built and it wasn't showing the number of votes received but even if I received 60 votes that is a lot. 60 votes means 60 people that like my photos or did agree to vote for them. It might be few but for me...it counts.

The good news is... you won't believe this !
I did won the second place!!!
Now you're probably saying that I'm out of my mind or that this is not possible. I DID won but not because of the public votes but because of the jury decision. I was really, really surprised!!!
This is the photo that won the second place on the theme "Relics" bogdanepure.deviantart.com/art…. I must remind you that there were 7 themes for this contest.

I am surprised and happy. What a beautiful surprise...

P.S. Don't ask me what I won... I really don't know. They still didn't said what are the prizes (if there are any)

Hello everybody!

I've never asked you for this but I REALLY need your help.
Please visit this Cetatea de Scaun navigate to the last page (the fifth one) and give a 10 for the last photo which is called "Cetatea de Scaun a Moldovei"
Then visit this La inaltime navigate to the last page (the fourth one) and give a 10 for the photo called "La inaltime" (which the photo before the last two photos.
The voting will last till October 4th.

Why I'm asking this? Because:
This is a national photo contest held in my country for touristic purposes. The problem is there is a jury and there is the vote of the public. The jury made a very strict selection and 27 of 29 of the photos I've submitted were rejected. I really doubt the fairness of the process so I'm asking for your help.
I ask you for this not because I'm aiming for some fancy prizes, I'm not and believe me, they didn't even specified all the prizes
Only one of them was mentioned: that the winner photo will receive some entry level DSLR as a prize.
And that photo together with other selected photos will be presented in a national exhibition in the capital city of Romania - Bucharest.
That is what I'm aiming for. I hope one of my two photos will get there because this a good way to become known. And I think this is something will help me.
I REALLY don't trust the jury so, my only hope is YOU.
I don't have a subscription so I can't organize polls.
My question is what type of photography do you like from my gallery or which photo.
What do you think I'm good at, what I should improve.
I really wish to read your honest opinion. Please take your time and comment here, thank you very much. :)
